Rich exchange of experiences and ambitious planning at the Plenary Meeting of the European Communist Action in Athens
The Plenary Meeting of the European Communist Action (ECA), hosted by the KKE in Athens, took place successfully on Saturday 22 November 2025. Giorgos Marinos, member of the PB of the CC of the KKE, presented the ECA report on behalf of the ECA Secretariat.
Delegates from the Party of Labour of Austria, the Communist Workers' Party – For Peace and Socialism (Finland), the Communist Revolutionary Party of France, the Communist Party of Greece, the Workers Party of Ireland, the Communist Front Italy, the New Communist Party of the Netherlands, the Communist Party of the Workers of Spain, the Communist Party of Sweden, the Swiss Communist Party, the Union of Communists of Ukraine and the Communist Party of Turkey discussed the report on the actions of the ECA in the previous period and determined its Action Plan for the first half of 2026.
The rich action plan of the ECA, adopted at the ECA Plenary Meeting in Athens, outlines important initiatives for the upcoming months. These include opposition to imperialist war and "peace" with a gun held to the peoples' heads, as well as discussions and meetings on the conclusions from socialist construction, on the tasks of communists in the labour movement for the struggle against imperialist plans, and initiatives in the struggle for workers' and people's rights.
The Plenary Meeting also approved a resolution in solidarity with the Communist Party of Poland and condemned the new measures to ban its legal activities, following a motion by the country's President Nawrocki, who provocatively demands that the goals and activities of the Communist Party of Poland be declared unconstitutional by the Polish Constitutional Court. The anti-communist trial was set for 3 December. As an immediate response, on Monday 1 December, the parties of the ECA decided to organize protests outside the Polish embassies in their countries.
The text of the resolution in solidarity with the Communist Party of Poland reads as follows:
Resolution of the ECA against the persecution of the Communist Party of Poland
Our parties strongly condemn the recent unacceptable action by Polish President Nawrocki, who has filed a motion with the Constitutional Court claiming that “the aims and activities of the Communist Party of Poland are unconstitutional”.
This is an unfounded motion and largely echoes similar attempts by bourgeois forces in the country five years ago to ban the CP of Poland, which ultimately did not proceed.
The Constitutional Court, in a brief ruling, has set the trial date for 3 December.
This attempt to ban the CP of Poland is the culmination of previous efforts by the Polish bourgeoisie and governments, with the tolerance of the EU, whose official ideology is anti-communism. These efforts were met with an immediate international outcry and mobilization by Communist and Workers’ parties around the world, and were successfully prevented.
These efforts have now resurfaced, as the ideas, actions and interventions of communists stand in opposition to their aims of skyrocketing military armament and the slaughterhouses of war at the expense of the people, intensifying workplace exploitation, and enforcing brutal repression against workers and the youth.
In the face of anti-communist hysteria, the rewriting of history, and the provocative equation of the new world, communism, with fascism and its atrocities, alongside repugnant actions such as the recent so-called Anti-Communism Week under US President Trump, we declare that anti-communism will fail in Poland and everywhere else.
We intensify our efforts to promote communist ideas so that anti-communist propaganda does not take root, particularly among young people, who are their primary target. We are strengthening our interventions so that the people and the youth understand the real way out: socialism–communism.
Hands off the communists!
- We demand an immediate end to persecution and attempts to ban the activities of the Communist Party of Poland.
- We call for a Europe-wide mobilization on 1 December, with protests outside Polish embassies to oppose their anti-communist plans.
This statement is open for signatures from other parties as well.
