Statement of the European Communist Action on May Day 2026

The European Communist Action calls on the working class across Europe and all the popular strata to participate in the working-class mobilizations on May Day —International Workers' Day— and flood the streets to show the organized strength of workers. We honour the heroes and the fallen of our movement, from those in Chicago to the present day. We continue defiantly along the same path!

The European Communist Action also calls on the class-oriented organizations and trade unions to strengthen the workers' nature of this day of struggle, as well as the internationalist solidarity in this context of imperialist war.

The conditions under which we workers in Europe are approaching this May Day are shaped by the war economy and the escalation of military preparations. Our living standards and labour conditions continue to be worsened with the abolition of collective labour agreements; the deterioration and privatization of public services continue to advance; housing prices continue to rise; and the cost of living, of shopping baskets, of energy, of fuels continue to skyrocket unchecked. At the same time, the offensive against the interests of migrants and working-class women continues driven by racist, sexist, irrational and reactionary views, seeking to divide the working class and to make it accept a war that is alien to its interests as its own.

Imperialist aggression is the dominant topic as a result of the accumulation of tensions and conflicts for years at various levels and in different regions of the world. Today, the imperialist aggression is being waged in various locations of the globe, though it reaches its most belligerent levels and has the worst consequences for the workers in the Middle East — particularly Iran, Palestine, and Lebanon due to the barbaric attacks launched by the US and Israel.

The competition between different countries and capitalist blocs is escalating, and the various governments are preparing themselves for all the scenarios. In this context, rearming, militarization of the economy, and the preparation of the peoples for war are taking place:

• Governments are mobilizing in order to ensure a rearming, thus deepening the market of arms production, purchase, and sale, and also of military intelligence;
• The economy is being subdued to the interests of war (increase in defence expenses, transformation of productive sectors, creation of employment linked to war activity...);
• Capitalism is using the propaganda machinery to ensure the ideological and social acceptance of the war and all the costs it has for the working class. It also promotes a false and dangerous appeal to broad sections of the working class to shed their blood for the interests of the capitalists.

The European Union and various bourgeois governments are clear examples of these processes. They support the imperialist attacks against the peoples, are involved in them in multiple ways and back their despicable pretexts all the while hypocritically waving the flag of “No to war” and deepening their pursuit of strategic autonomy. They also seek to deceive the working class by promoting a European community of capitalist interests against any other imperialist alliance or bloc. There is no such community of interests between capitalists and workers within any border, only among the exploited workers all across the world.

The European workers are clear: our class interests have nothing to do with the interests of those who exploit us nor their political representatives.

While capitalists are promoting the anti-people policies, austerity, budget cuts and redundancies, the working class can barely reproduce its labour power. While capitalists need to increase the production in their military industry, the working class is being murdered in other countries with weapons produced by that same industry. While capitalists are fostering reactionary stances and exercise the repression against the working class, the working class is enduring persecution and attempts at class conciliation with their exploiters. While capitalists are broadcasting war-mongering propaganda, the working class responds with  proletarian internationalism. These are just some examples evidencing that their banners are not ours.

In this context, the working class should articulate its own response to the attacks we are enduring, and we should take the lead in responding in a united and organized manner. In this path, it is essential to detach ourselves from dividing, reactionary, anti-trade union, racist, and sexist discourses, but also from the harmful influence of social democracy within the workers' movement, unveiling their practices of social conciliation and peace, which serve to disorientate and restrain mass mobilization and class struggle. The organized working class cannot trust in “better models” of capitalist management. In order to make the foundations of capitalism stagger and overthrow it, we need a class-oriented and independent programme of struggle that clashes with the power of monopolies, is opposed to the imperialist war, and practices proletarian internationalism.

This response is built at workplaces, in working-class and popular neighbourhoods; in each strike, demonstration, and social protest; from the class-oriented organization in trade unions, from the communist and workers' parties. Workers of Europe, every step we take, every advance we achieve united strengthen us, every partial victory is accumulated until the construction of a working-class opposition capable of overthrowing this system of exploitation and building a society free from it, i.e. socialism. With that victory, the needs of workers at workplaces can be prioritized.

Declaración de la Acción Comunista Europea en el 1º de Mayo de 2026

 

La Acción Comunista Europea hace un llamamiento a la clase obrera europea y a los sectores populares a participar en las movilizaciones obreras del próximo 1 de mayo, día internacional de la clase obrera, inundando las calles para demostrar la fuerza organizada de los trabajadores. Honramos a los héroes y los caídos de nuestro movimiento, desde los de Chicago hasta la actualidad. ¡Seguimos de manera desafiante en el mismo camino!

La Acción Comunista Europea también hace un llamamiento a las organizaciones clasistas y de lucha sindical a reforzar el carácter obrero de esta jornada de lucha, así como la solidaridad internacionalista en este contexto de guerra imperialista.

Las condiciones en las que los trabajadores europeos llegamos a este 1º de mayo están moldeadas por la economía de guerra y la escalada de los preparativos militares. Nuestras condiciones de vida y trabajo siguen empeorando con la abolición de los convenios colectivos, el deterioro y privatización de los servicios públicos sigue avanzando, el precio a la vivienda sigue subiendo, y el coste de la vida, de la cesta de la compra, de los combustibles sigue creciendo imparablemente. Al mismo tiempo continúa la ofensiva de los discursos racistas contra la clase obrera migrante y machistas contra las mujeres trabajadoras que buscan dividir a la clase obrera y hacer que acepte una guerra ajena a sus propios intereses.

La agresión imperialista es la gran protagonista de este año 2026 gracias a la acumulación durante años de tensiones y conflictos a distintos niveles y en distintas regiones del mundo. Hoy la agresión imperialista se ejerce en distintos puntos del planeta, aunque alcanza cotas de mayor beligerancia y peores consecuencias en Oriente Medio, especialmente Irán, Palestina y Líbano, debido a los bárbaros ataques iniciados por EE.UU. e Israel.

La competencia entre distintos países y bloques está escalando, y los distintos gobiernos se preparan para todos los escenarios. En este contexto tienen lugar el rearme, la militarización de la economía y la preparación de los pueblos para la guerra:

• Los gobiernos se movilizan para garantizarse un rearme, profundizando el mercado de la producción, compra y venta de armas, así como de inteligencia militar.
• La economía pasa a estar subordinada a los intereses de la guerra (aumento del gasto en defensa, transformación de sectores productivos, creación de empleo vinculado a la actividad bélica…)
• El capitalismo utiliza la maquinaria propagandística para garantizarse la aceptación ideológica y social de la guerra y de todos los costes que esta tiene para la clase obrera, promoviendo un llamamiento falso y peligroso hacia amplios sectores de la clase obrera para que derramen su sangre para beneficio de los capitalistas.

La Unión Europea, y los distintos gobiernos burgueses son claros ejemplos de estos procesos: apoyan los ataques imperialistas contra los pueblos, se involucran de distintas maneras en ellos y respaldan sus despreciables pretextos de forma hipócrita, enarbolando la bandera del “no a la guerra” mientras profundizan en la autonomía estratégica, engañando a la clase obrera cuando plantean la comunidad europea de los intereses capitalistas frente a los de cualquier otra alianza o bloque imperialista. No existe tal comunidad de intereses entre capitalistas y obreros dentro de ninguna frontera, solo entre los obreros explotados en todas las latitudes del planeta.

Los obreros de Europa lo tenemos claro: nuestros intereses de clase nada tienen que ver con los intereses de quienes nos explotan ni de sus representantes políticos.

Mientras los capitalistas promueven políticas antipopulares, la austeridad, recortes presupuestarios y despidos, la clase obrera apenas puede reproducir su fuerza de trabajo. Mientras los capitalistas necesitan aumentar la producción en su industria militar, la clase obrera es asesinada en otros países con armas producidas en esa misma industria. Mientras los capitalistas impulsan las posiciones reaccionarias y practican la represión al movimiento obrero, la clase obrera sufre la persecución y los intentos de conciliación de clase con sus explotadores. Mientras los capitalistas difunden propaganda belicista, la clase obrera responde con el internacionalismo proletario. Estos son solo algunos ejemplos que demuestran que sus banderas no son las nuestras.

En este contexto, la clase obrera debe articular su propia respuesta ante los ataques que sufrimos, y debemos tomar la iniciativa de responder de manera unida y organizada. En este camino es imprescindible desvincularse de los discursos divisores, reaccionarios, antisindicales, racistas y machistas, pero también de la dañina influencia de la socialdemocracia en el seno del movimiento obrero, desenmascarando sus prácticas de conciliación y paz social que sirven de contención de la movilización de masas. La clase obrera organizada no puede confiar en “mejores modelos” de gestión capitalista. Para hacer tambalear los cimientos del capitalismo y derrocarlo, necesitamos un programa de lucha clasista e independiente, que enfrente el poder de los monopolios, que se oponga a la guerra imperialista y practique el internacionalismo proletario.

Esta respuesta se construye desde los centros de trabajo, desde los barrios obreros y populares, en cada huelga, manifestación y protesta social, desde la organización clasista en sindicatos, desde los partidos comunistas y obreros. Trabajadores de Europa: cada paso que damos cuenta, cada avance que conquistamos unidos nos fortalece, cada victoria parcial se acumula, hasta la construcción de una oposición obrera que esté en condiciones de derrocar este sistema de explotación y construir una sociedad sin ella; esto es, el socialismo. Con esa victoria, se pueden priorizar las necesidades de los trabajadores en el centro de trabajo.
